Civilization III Mods

Mod "Bigger, Better Worlds" Version 2005/08/15 Requirements "Conquests" Civ III Expansion Description This mod provides larger world maps, significant tech tree additions and revisions (most notably in the ancient and modern ages), three new government types, over 40 new improvements and wonders (including small wonders unique to each government type and civilization strength), more than two dozen new units, some minor graphics refinements, and a variety of rules adjustments. Though the mod has grown much larger than I originally expected, it remains my purpose primarily to enhance the game. "Bigger, Better Worlds" is meant to make the Civ III epic game more interesting and challenging; unlike some of the other mods out there, though, it is not intended to be "an entirely different way to play." Of course, my intent notwithstanding, it seems to be developing in that direction, anyway. While much of what you know about and expect from the default epic game will still apply when playing BBW, much else will not. Mod "BBW, with Dinos" Version 2005/08/15 Requirements "Play the World" and "Conquests" Civ III Expansions; "Bigger, Better Worlds" Mod Description This is the "Bigger, Better Worlds" mod, with an updated version of the Saurian civilization from "Dinosaurs and Libertarians" thrown in just for fun. Other than the fact that the Saurians exist (and that the Dinosaur Park wonder has been replaced by Panda Park), "BBW, with Dinos" is exactly the same as "Bigger, Better Worlds." Mod "Dinosaurs and Libertarians" (a.k.a. "Ancient Ones and Enlightened Ones") Version 2004/05/14 Requirements "Play the World" Civ III Expansion Description This mod replaces barbarians with dinosaurs, introduces a new civilization, the Saurians (dinosaurs), and adds a new government type, Libertarianism. No, the new government has nothing to do with the dinosaurs; they're just two different changes that I felt like making, that got me started modding. Mod "Play the World" Dinosaur Units Description These are the dinosaur units included with the "Play the World" expansion. Although the "Conquests" expansion included most of the content from "Play the World," it didn't include these. So if you have only "Conquests," you're missing these (and a few other "extra") units. Firaxis has agreed to allow the missing units to be freely distributed, though, so you can get them here if you need them. To use them, simply put all of the dinosaur unit animation folders (there are 12 of them) in a "civ3ptw/extras/prehistoric/art/units/" folder. Mod "Rhye's" Terrain Graphics Mod Description As far as I'm concerned, "Rhye" has created the best Civ III terrain graphics available. If you haven't already done so, check them out! To use his graphics with "Bigger, Better Worlds," you'll need either to put his files into the BBW mod folder (making sure not to replace the BBW "resources.pcx" and "resources_shadows.pcx" files with his!), or simply replace the default Civ III files with his. The latter is what I did; it allows "Rhye's" terrain graphics to show up in every game I play, with any or no mod, unless a mod specifically includes its own terrain graphics files. Mod "CornMaster's" City Border Graphics Description What can I say? I like these borders. They're solid, rather than dotted, and they're "fuzzed" a bit on the inner edge, so that you can immediately tell which side of the border is which. Mod "Rufus T. Firefly's" Victorian Stamps Interface Description Think the backgrounds for the various advisors' screens are a bit dull? Then be sure to download this set. "Rufus" has spiced things up by adding thematically-appropriate images culled from Victorian-era prints. The end result is quite impressive!
